A Retreat for Dads of Children Living with Prader-Willi Syndrome

The Retreat

Sandia Resort and Casino

Our host hotel for the weekend, Sandia Resort & Casino offers comfortable accommodations and convenient access to the tram and event locations. It provides a relaxed home base for connection, conversation, and downtime between activities.

Sandia Crest Tramway

We’ll take the Sandia Peak Tramway to the summit of the Sandia Crest, enjoying sweeping views of Albuquerque and the surrounding mountains. The ride sets the tone for the day — creating space to transition from the everyday into the shared experience ahead.

Connection Hike

From the summit, we will hike at a relaxed, conversational pace along the North Crest Trail to Kiwanis Cabin. Designed for connection rather than competition, the hike includes intentional pauses and light prompts to encourage meaningful conversation among dads who share the PWS journey.

The idea for DADventure began when Matt Rivard and I found ourselves sitting at a bar, drinking a beer and talking about the unique experience of being dads of children with Prader-Willi Syndrome. We recognized the need for a dedicated space where fathers could come together, build meaningful connections, and find strength in shared experience. This retreat was created to foster that community — one grounded in authenticity, camaraderie, and mutual support
